Girls enjoy full immersion experience in Barcelona

During half term, 29 L5 and U5 Hispanists spent one week in sunny Barcelona enjoying a full immersion experience.

They stayed with their exchange partners’ families, experiencing real daily life in Spain while improving their Spanish skills and they even spent one day attending lessons in school, shadowing their exchange partner.

Short trip to France gives girls French practice

L5 girls had a full-on programme of French activities in the sun for our second trip to Montpellier, France.The group spent five nights and six days in sunny Montpellier where the sun was shining for us every day with temperatures rising up to 27 degrees. Quel plaisir!

Variety of activities to celebrate Languages at Headington

To celebrate the diversity of culture and languages spoken by the Headington community, we held our annual languages fair this week. 

Over 200 Year 5s and 6s, U3s and L4s tried their hand at pétanque, dressed in traditional costume, took part in quizzes and danced to music from around the world.

Beth and Lara experience German culture as part of Government programme

Two Headington girls have taken part in a special exchange programme with Germany.

Lara, U5, and Beth, U6, applied for places on the UK German Connection scheme, which is funded by the British and German governments, last year. After submitting application letters, references and essays, both were lucky enough to be chosen from students across Britain to take part in two week funded courses in Germany.

Four L5 girls from Headington’s Language Ambassadors group have achieved great success in this year’s Oxford German Olympiad, a prestigious competition organised by the Oxford German Network.

German vocabulary tested in play

On Monday 23rd March, over 160 girls who learn German in U3 - L5 packed into the Theatre for this year’s German play, Hausarrest!

The combination of humour and linguistic performances entertained and educated the girls for an hour - including some of our own girls who ended up starring in the play themselves!

Spanish visitors experience taste of Headington life

This week we have been privileged enough to welcome to Headington 15 pupils and their teachers from our Spanish partner school, La Vall in Barcelona.

Despite the snowy conditions making our journey to pick up our Spanish friends from the airport a little treacherous, they arrived safely on Saturday 6th March and were welcomed to England with smiling faces, balloons and banners.

Onatti Theatre Company performs French play

Once again we were delighted to welcome the Onatti Theatre Company to perform their second French play, 'Mes chers voisins'.

It was another big success and the L4 and U4 girls had a good time being fully entertained for 50 minutes of pure French. Lots of L4 and U4 came out of the play smiling and buzzing.

Girls explore Queen's College

Twelve Language Ambassadors from L5 and U5 spent a morning at Queen’s College to find out more about studying at Oxford University.

After meeting Schools’ Liaison Officer Orock Nsoatabe and gaining valuable insights into the advantages of studying at Oxford, the girls enjoyed a tour of this beautiful college, including a visit to the impressive library, which features in the list of Top Ten Libraries in the world to visit before you die.

Almodóvar is focus for day at British Film Institute

On Friday 8th December, 13 Sixth Form Hispanists, accompanied by Mrs Primrose Wood and Mrs Diana Bonifaci, made their way to London for a study day organised by the British Film Institute.
