Beautiful sunshine greets skiers on Milky Way ski circuit

Headington ski group headed out over half term to Sestrière, Italy.

With 400km of piste and at a height of 2,035m the location was perfectly situated to offer be plenty of snow and plenty to ski to keep everyone from beginner to expert happy for five days on the mountains.

Arriving after dark it was difficult to see what lay ahead so the girls were all very happy to awake to snow covered runs, blue skies and the promise of sunshine... little did they know these beautiful conditions were to last all week.

During the trip, the girls saw the White House, Congress, Supreme Court, Smithsonian Museums, Lincoln Memorials and Washington Monument.

They spent time in the Museum of Native American Indians, visited the grave of former president John F Kennedy at Arlington National Cemetery and took some time to see both the Korean and Vietnam War Memorials. The Second World War Memorial was also a highlight.

Trip to Swiss research centre gives taste of world-class STEM

How did our universe begin? What is our universe actually made of? And can we create artificial ‘suns’ here on planet Earth to solve our ever increasing global energy demands? These are some of the questions the international community of scientists based near Geneva have been working on for the past 50 years. In October half-term break more than 30 Headington girls were lucky enough to visit CERN and the Swiss Plasma Centre to meet world-leading scientists and hear about the latest discoveries in high-energy particle physics.

Fantastic French trip

Twenty girls and three teachers set off at 2.00 am on Saturday morning to the bustling city in Southern France. After watching the sunrise through the airplane windows, we were greeted by the morning sun as we stepped out into Montpellier.

We journeyed first to our characterful apartments, flats or houses, attempting to converse in French as much as possible. We settled down to an early lunch before visiting the only replica of the Arc du Triomphe, taking a walk in ‘La Promenade du Peyrou’ and having an afternoon of exploring the city.
