Retreat at Arvon Centre gives creative writers prompt and stimulus

This half-term saw 16 girls and two teachers head off into the Shropshire countryside for Arvon's creative writing retreat. The group had the privilege of spending the week writing, reading and relaxing under the guidance of the Arvon staff and the two creative writing tutors, Mark Illis and Rachel Long.

Success at Dance Factor qualifiers nets Katy finals place

An U4 dancer has pirouetted her way to the finals of a prestigious national dance competition.

Katy was among nearly 1,000 dancers taking part in the Dance Factor 2019 qualifiers on Sunday 17th February, vying to be one of the top six dancers in each age category to qualify for the finals in November.

Girls and staff provide music in different languages in cabaret setting

Our Modern Languages and Music departments joined forces to celebrate Valentine's Day with a difference.

The 'Love' Cabaret was one of a number of events organised as part of our Year of Languages.

The main hall was transformed into an intimate and cosy cabaret and the audience was blown away by the amazing singing acts on offer that evening.

Headingtonians share Drama expertise with girls and scholars

On Thursday 14th February, the Drama Department welcomed back two former A Level Drama students to Headington School; Eleanor Colville and Isabella Stargardter, who left in 2013. Both individuals now work in casting, production, performance and script writing, having studied at Cambridge and Kings College London respectively. They were also joined by Joe Winters, a resident director at the Almeida Theatre in London.

A Level Latin students attended a conference at Cokethorpe School on Thursday 14th February where they had the opportunity to hear a number of talks on the texts they are studying at A Level.

Letter-writing campaign on climate change

Headington girls joined in solidarity with those across the country for a special session on climate change on Friday 15th February.

The lunchtime session, held to coincide with the youth strike action, focused on what actions girls could take as both individuals and as part of a school community to combat climate change.

Girls wrote to their MPs, urging them to take action and expressing their concerns. They also looked at actions the School itself could take to reduce its impact.

Personal pilgrimage forms part of Battlefields trip

On Friday 8th February at the crack of dawn 37 girls from L5 and U4 set off to explore the Battlefields of the First World War.

While the weather was cold and windy their spirits were not dampened as they explored various aspects of this pivotal conflict which claimed the lives of 20 million people worldwide.

Girls join with Magdalen College School for social event

Friends, food and fun were the order of the day for the U3 social.

Friday 9th February saw 80 Headington girls come face to face on the dancefloor with 60 Magdalen College School boys.

The theme for the occasion - ‘neon’ - ensured an unforgettable evening, with the school hall lit up with glow sticks, fluorescent balloons and colourful lights.

Girls were treated to a huge array of different talents in an annual event showcasing the many and varied skills of L4 girls.

Each class put forward an individual, a small group and a whole group performance for the L4 Talent Show on Friday 8th February.

Universities and specialist programme leaders provide information at special event

Girls and parents were given the opportunity to find out more about their next steps after Headington at our annual Higher Education Evening on Wednesday 6th February.

The evening offered a survey of the current UCAS landscape and information about the UCAS process at Headington. Specialist talks included an insight into the Oxbridge interview and application process, along with talks on overseas Higher Education opportunities in North America and Europe.
