Fantastic Celebration of Percussion sees all years perform

Yesterday the Music Department hosted a concert of Music written for various percussion instruments. While many of the audience were probably not familiar with timpani sonatas or ragtimes for marimba, the concert provided a fantastic range of styles, instruments and ensembles for the audience to enjoy.

Headington Music Scholars gathered for their annual concert on Friday 8th March. This event is always a highlight in the department calendar, and celebrates the ongoing hard work and commitment of our scholars to the musical life of the School.

Black belt chosen for England squad for important international contest

A U4 karateka has been selected to compete in the Japan Karate Association, JKA, Junior European Karate Championships in May in Kadan, Czech Republic.

Ayako trained with the JKA England squad last summer after winning a bronze medal in the JKA Nationals in June and also this autumn. She went for the annual squad trials in November and was invited to join the squad after that.

Gifted swimmer will vie for place in British Championships

A gifted young Headington swimmer will be competing against girls from around the world at an international meet in Edinburgh this weekend, 15th - 17th March.

Headington to field four girls in British finals

Three Headington fencers came home with five medals after taking part in the Southern Region Epee and Sabre qualifiers for the finals of the British Youth Championships.

The contest on Sunday saw Alexandra, U4, Darcy, U4 and Tegen, L5, representing the School at the qualifying event in Swindon on Sunday 10th March. All three fenced in the Epee age groups and Darcy and Tegen also fenced in the Sabre qualifiers.

Fascinating look at the Science behind Bird Migration

On Tuesday 26th February we welcomed Professor Christiane Timmel to Headington for a fantastic talk on Bird Migration.

The talk was truly interdisciplinary, with Prof Timmel, herself a Chemistry Professor at the Oxford University, guiding the girls through the ways in which Biology, Physics and Chemistry are all contributing to our understanding of this remarkable phenomenon.

Girls take on role of Syrian delegates

Six Headington sixth formers headed to Magdalen College School to take part in a Model United Nations session on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd March.

Two of the girls, Hayley and Sabrina, won awards for 'highly commendable' and 'commendable' delegates respectively.

Choir provides music at service at St Andrew's, Headington

On Sunday 3rd March, members of the Chamber Choir joined forces with the choir of St Andrew's Church in Headington for their morning service. The School has an ongoing relationship with St Andrew's, whose vicar is Father Darren McFarland, one of our governors.

Headington brass players and choristers have performed for several years for Remembrance and confirmation services and the girls enjoy teaming up with their choir and musical director, Richard Bennett.

Dozens of bags of rubbish collected for annual campaign

Dozens of bags of rubbish were collected as U4 girls took to the streets to do their part in this year's OxClean campaign.

Armed with litter pickers and bin bags, the girls spread out around the Headington area and spent two hours picking up discarded rubbish.

Head of Charities and Communities Mr David Cunningham said: "OxClean was an amazing success with some really positive community feedback. A number of shopkeepers, a local church leader and countless members of the public all came out and thanked our girls during the event!
