Five winners in Classical Reading contest

The Classics Department enjoyed success again at the annual Oxfordshire Classical Reading Competition on Thursday 14th March.

Girls competed against a number of other local schools to perform a recitation of a piece of Latin or Greek Literature, taken often from the texts set for GCSE or A Level.

U13s reach quarter finals in Plate Competition

On Tuesday 12th March, the Headington U13 Hockey team headed to Woking Hockey Club to compete in the Regional Hockey Tournament.

The girls had secured a place in the regional tournament after winning their county tournament a few weeks previously. They had three group matches against Cheam,  St John's and Laytmer.

Oxford University experts hold Neuroscience for Teaching event at Headington

Alongside the busy daily routine of educating young people, Headington School is also a regional hub for teacher training via Post Graduate Certificate in Education and School Centred Initial Teacher Training, so it was a real pleasure to host guests from Oxford University and the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging to speak about the neuroscience of learning.

Science ambassadors debunk the science behind magic

As part of British Science Week 2019, U3 and L4 were treated to a theatre spectacle based on the theme of magic performed by our Sixth Form Science Ambassadors.

The audience marvelled at some implausible imagery, logic-defying demos and captivating chemistry. Hearing and eyesight were tested, deceiving rows of girls as they tried to identify the calls and otherworldly shapes of the animal kingdom.

Fantastic fundraising efforts for Comic Relief

A host of different activities were held to raise money for Comic Relief on Friday 15th March.

The day started with a pre school nail bar and built up to a whole programme of events over lunchtime. Girls voted for staff to take part in a karaoke challenge, to face a bush tucker challenge, to perform with other staff in a 'boy band', a lyric reading challenge and finally to face bucketfuls of gunge.

Array of events celebrates international community

As part of the Year of Languages, this week we celebrated the linguistic and cultural diversity of girls and staff with a series of assemblies, performances and our International Week fair. There are more than 50 different languages, other than English, which are spoken fluently on a day-to-day basis by Headington girls and staff.

Biology in action in our colourful fish tank

Spring has sprung in the Biology department. The fish in the aquarium have noticed that the days are getting longer and have started preparing for new life. Two baby starfish have been spotted although you have to be quick to see them because they’re hiding in the sand. The two remaining clownfish have laid eggs which the male clownfish is fiercely guarding.
